The Shot Not Heard Around the World

Image
Book: The Shot Not Heard Around the World  Author: Charlie Damitz  Review: Jeremy is a fourteen-year-old boy who quickly became my favorite character because of his courage. When a Redcoat appeared at his father's farm, Jeremy had a chance to kill the enemy and be hailed as a hero. But he couldn’t bring himself to take a human life. After that moment, Jeremy was overcome with guilt and began to see himself as a coward or even a traitor. He withdrew into a cave until he emerged with a new purpose—to help the wounded. In this way, he found a way to serve his country without resorting to violence. Instead of taking lives, he began saving them. Though it's a short read, this book leaves a strong impact. By sparing one life, Jeremy altered the course of his own and found more meaningful opportunities. The influence of a local doctor sparked a transformation in Jeremy—one that would go on to heal many lives. This is a book well worth reading. I finished it in one sitting. The...

Miles in Time

Book: Miles in Time  Written by: Lee Matthew Goldberg  4.5/5 My Thoughts: Whenever I come across a YA time-travel mystery, I jump at the chance to read it — and Miles in Time by Lee Matthew Goldberg was no exception. The first book in the Miles in Time series shares its title with the series itself, and it immediately pulled me in. Matthew’s storytelling is sharp and focused. From the very first chapter, I connected with Miles Hardy. Despite having little support from his family or classmates, Miles remains determined to follow his dream of becoming a detective — and I found myself rooting for him throughout. When his older brother Simon is tragically murdered, Miles sees a chance not only to solve his first real case, but also to use time travel to save his brother. But with so many layers of mystery and danger, Miles must navigate whom he can trust — all while keeping everything a secret and stopping the killers in the past. The plot is gripping and full of tension. Y...

The Scent of Redemption

Book: The Scent of Redemption  Author: Shreyan Laha  My Rating: 5/5 In the year 4000 AD, Dr. Ronit Sarkar commits a grave crime by administering an untested vaccine to a 4-year-old boy. Deemed unfit to remain on Earth, he is exiled to the distant planet Flarelix. There, he encounters the superintelligent species known as the Zizanoids. As time passes, guilt begins to consume him, and he embarks on a quest for redemption. My Thoughts: The alien world of Flarelix is vividly imagined. The author’s rich descriptions immediately drew me in, showcasing his remarkable creativity and original vision. I especially loved how Book 1 concluded—it left me eager for the next installment. The plot is gripping and truly unputdownable. I thoroughly enjoyed Laha’s writing style, and his inventive portrayal of Flarelix and the Zizanoids added an extra layer of intrigue to the story. Don’t hesitate—pick up this book. You won’t regret it.
