Chateau Laux

Book: Chateau Laux

Author: David Loux

Review:

Chateau Laux is the first book I’ve read by author David Loux, and it left a lasting impression. The story follows Lawrence Kraymer, a merchant who inherits his grandfather’s brewery business. Troubled and seeking solitude, Lawrence retreats to the woods with his friend John. However, when John departs early, Lawrence decides to stay behind alone—only to realize he’s lost his way.

In search of shelter for the night, Lawrence stumbles upon the home of a kind man named Pierre. There, he meets Catharine and is instantly captivated by her beauty. In an effort to win her father’s approval, Lawrence builds the magnificent Chateau Laux. Curious about how life unfolds for Lawrence in the chateau he built? You’ll have to read the book to find out.

It was the book’s striking cover that first caught my attention, but it’s Loux’s writing that truly impressed me. His characters are thoughtfully crafted and linger in your memory. Their acts of kindness are a reminder of the goodness that exists—even toward strangers. I’m genuinely excited to explore more of David Loux’s work.
